Jay Meeks, LMSW
Jay Meeks is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) licensed by the state of Tennessee Social Work Board. Jay graduated from the University of Tennessee with a master’s degree in social work with a clinical focus. He worked for several years at a residential treatment facility which gave him experience with a wide variety of issues. He has experience working with adult clients across the life-span. This includes recent high school graduates and college students navigating the transition to independence all the way to older adults approaching the end of life. Jay does not believe in a “one size fits all” approach. He uses a variety of psychotherapy approaches because each person is unique. He uses approaches such as: mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness based cognitive therapy (MBCT), mentalization based therapy (MBT), cognitive processing therapy for trauma (CPT), pragmatic psychodynamic therapy, positive psychology, and a variety of tools from other psychotherapies such as gestalt and existential psychotherapy. In addition, Jay has specialized training in the LEAP method for gaining medication compliance for people suffering from psychosis. He also has extensive training and experience treating personality disorders, in particular, borderline personality disorder. Jay works with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychosis, trauma, and other life difficulties. Life is full of challenges. How we respond to those challenges will have a direct impact on the quality of our life. Jay’s passion is helping people to live fully beyond the perceived limits of the challenges we face.
When not at work, Jay can be found hiking, running, gardening, meditating or playing with his dogs. Jay is currently accepting new clients
